About

What is WindyBox?

WindyBox is a free, browser-based interactive wind simulator. You paint wind patterns directly onto a live world map and thousands of animated particles respond instantly. No account, no download, no weather knowledge required.

Tools

Stream
Draws wind in the direction of your stroke. Use it for trade winds, jet streams or weather fronts.
Vortex
Stamps a spinning storm, cyclonic or anticyclonic. The ramp editor shapes the eye wall and outer bands.
Sink / Source
Sink pulls particles inward (low pressure). Source pushes them outward (high pressure).
Typhoon paths
Drop waypoints on the map and hit Play. A storm travels the route, changing size and strength at each point. Adjust Path smoothness to curve the track between waypoints.
Weather stations
Place markers on the map that show live wind speed and direction at that spot.
Save / Load world
Export your wind field as a .wbx file. Reload it later or share it with someone else.

FAQ

Is this real weather data?
No. You paint the wind yourself. WindyBox is not connected to any forecast or live data feed.
What does the hurricane category label mean?
It uses the Saffir-Simpson scale to show a real-world reference for the wind speed your brush will paint. Category 5 is above 252 km/h.
What is Interactive mode?
Painted wind fades out over time instead of staying permanently. Particles follow your cursor, then drift back to calm.
Can I save my creation?
Save world exports a .wbx file with the full field, waypoints and settings. Load world reads it back.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. One finger paints, two fingers pan and zoom. Switch to Paint / Move mode in Settings if needed.
Is WindyBox free?
Completely free, no account needed.
